Who Administers the Tests?

The NCETMB and NCETM exams are administered by the NCBTMB. It is the credentialing organization for insuring standards of excellence on a national level.

NCBTMB contracts with the company Pearson VUE. Pearson VUE has a variety of testing centers across North America. The tests are computer based. A candidate must receive an authorization to test letter, which provides instructions on registration. The letter gives you the necessary information to access the Pearson VUE testing system. Once in the system, a candidate will register and schedule an appointment at a testing center. If a candidate needs special accommodations, they should inform Pearson.

The MBLEx exam is administered by FSMTB (Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards). There are two ways a candidate registers for this exam. A candidate can apply directly to the FSMTB board or can apply at a state board of massage therapy. If a candidate needs accommodations, there is an additional form to be filled out along with the application so a request may be addressed. If the application is accepted then the agency will send the candidate a Notice to Schedule email. The Notice to Schedule will contain the information of exam dates and exam sites. The FSMTB also contracts with Pearson VUE for testing, and again the test is computer based.

All the registration requires is a fee and documentation of eligibility. Many massage therapy school programs guide a candidate through the process and provide test registration opportunities.
